Munnar: A Verdant Jewel in Kerala’s Crown
Kerala is a paradise for tourists. It offers everything that one needs to unwind. Sparkling busy beaches, idyllic backwaters, and serene hill stations—you ask for it, and this tiny state at the southern tip of India has Munnar, lying about a hundred kilometers from Kochi, is the jewel in the crown. It is a wonderful hill station perched on the top of the tea estates of the southern end of the massive Western Ghats.

It is found of the slopes of the Eravikulam National park. While a few years ago they were plenty of them to be seen, the influx of tourists to the park has resulted in many of them never coming down these slopes and probably going to the other sides of the mountain.

Best Time to Visit:
The best time to visit Munnar is from September to May. The weather is pleasant during these months, making it ideal for outdoor activities. While these hill stations are favorites during the summer season as people try and escape the heat in the plains it get a bit crowded. Well a bit crowded is probably an understatement. Hordes of people descend and it does seem silly to have gone all the way to escape the rush and land up in the middle of anther one.
The rains come down in this part of India between June and September and for someone looking for peace and tranquility nothing beats the ambiance of lush green tea gardens in the rains. And added to that is the fact that not many people land up here when it is raining. Thank God for that.

- By Air: The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport, located about 130 km from Munnar.
- By Train: The nearest railway station is Aluva, located about 110 km from Munnar.
- By Road: Munnar is well-connected by road to major cities in Kerala.

While there are plenty of resorts which offer a great escape, try and find a homestay ideally on the slopes of a tea garden and you shall have the best time.
